Job Description

As a Director of Engineering at Univest, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the end-to-end backend and platform engineering function. Your responsibilities will include:Role Overview:Univest is a fast-growing WealthTech platform focused on building research-first, goal-linked investment solutions for Indian investors. As part of the engineering organization, you will work towards supporting rapid growth, complex financial workflows, and high-availability systems.Key Responsibilities:- Technology & Architecture: - Own the backend and platform architecture utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and GCP - Design and scale high-performance, low-latency, highly available systems - Lead decisions on system design, microservices, data flows, security, and reliability - Solve challenging technical problems related to scale, performance, fault tolerance, and cost optimization - Be hands-on when necessary, especially in design reviews, critical fixes, and POCs- Engineering Leadership: - Lead and manage 2030 engineers across Backend, Platform, and Infra - Mentor Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and Senior Engineers - Set engineering standards for code quality, reviews, testing, documentation, and deployment - Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering excellence- Delivery & Execution: - Drive execution across multiple teams ensuring predictable delivery - Collaborate closely with Product, Data, DevOps, and Security teams - Balance speed and stability in a fast-scaling startup environment - Own roadmap execution, prioritize tech debt, and drive platform evolution- Org & Process: - Assist in scaling the engineering org structure, hiring bar, and performance management - Establish and enhance engineering processes including Agile/Scrum, OKRs, and metrics - Act as a thought partner to the CTO in long-term technology strategyQualifications Required:- 10 years of software engineering experience with people leadership- Strong expertise in Java & Spring Boot with deep backend fundamentals- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)- Proven track record in building and scaling production systems at scale- Experience in managing large teams or multiple squads (20 engineers)- Strong system design skills encompassing distributed systems, microservices, and APIs- Ability to dive deep into code when necessary, rather than just delegating tasks As a Director of Engineering at Univest, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the end-to-end backend and platform engineering function.
