Job Description

    Role Overview:As an Engineering Director at Canonical, you will be responsible for leading multiple teams of engineers across different time zones, hiring and managing engineering managers and staff engineers. You will play a key role in setting the pace and direction for the teams to achieve more than they thought possible, contributing to the transformation of the tech sector through open source software development.Key Responsibilities:- Lead multiple teams of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior levels- Hire staff level engineers for specific roles such as performance and quality- Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to team members- Ensure rounded delivery including community participation and documentation- Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projectsQualifications Required:- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path- Extensive management experience and confidence to set high expectations- Outstanding Linux-based software engineering track record- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English- Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers- Organized and able to ensure your team delivers timely, high-quality results- Professional manner when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community- Knowledgeable and passionate about software development- Solid experience working in an agile development environment- Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks eachAdditional Details:Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is a remote-first organization that values diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds to create a better work environment and better products.
