Principal User Experience Developer, AccessibilityPosting Location : Location US-NC-RemotePosting date 15 hours ago(8/11/2022 7:13 AM) About the job The Red Hat Digital Experience team within the Marketing team is looking for a Principal User Experience Developer to join us. In this role, you will work with our Design System team to provide pathways for teams across the organization to implement accessibility standards throughout our customer-facing and internal digital offerings. You will work with designers, developers, producers, engineers, and more on a cross-functional team, providing accessibility reviews and consultations on our Design System components as well as public-facing web pages and applications. You will also build components, frameworks, tooling, documentation and guides to elevate our commitment to accessibility standards. As a Principal User Experience Developer, you will focus on building experiences for the Digital Design System team and other experience design initiatives. You ll be responsible for all aspects of the development process, from code creation to quality assurance (QA) and accessibility testing. You will operate in an agile, team-oriented environment. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business. What you will do
• Apply your accessibility subject matter expertise in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specifications and tooling
• Be comfortable giving talks and coaching teams on how to build with accessibility at the forefront
• Provide code review for other front-end developers, emphasizing coding best accessibility practices and Web Standards
• Integrate with the Digital Experience Systems team and their frameworks to provide expert feedback
• Write high-quality code with Web Standards best practices and design patterns in mind and take the lead in code reviewing
• Consult with your partners in the Digital Experience Systems team to form sprint goals and break work into Atomic units
• Advise engineering management on assessing technical complexity and resourcing needs
What you will bring
• 7+ years of professional experience working in accessibility and with current web front-end technologies
• Experience leading organizations toward accessibility best practices
• Ability to apply expertise in web accessibility to provide guidance on WCAG best practices
• Expert understanding of Web Standards, WCAG, and ARIA specifications and how to apply them to front-end code in order to create accessible web interfaces
• Proficiency in the most common screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
• Experience working with axe, Lighthouse, and other accessibility testing tools
• Proficiency in semantic web markup (HTML), CSS3, Sass, JavaScript, and front-end development frameworks and technologies like Web Components
• Knowledge of software principles, application architecture, data structures, coding conventions, and testing frameworks
• Ability to evaluate the accessibility of third-party libraries and vendors for use on enterprise-level websites
• Experience working in collaborative code repositories like Git
• Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification is a plus
