Job Description

This will focus on metallurgical testing, material analysis, and quality control relevant to the forging industry:Lab Incharge Job Description - Forging FirmPosition OverviewThe Lab Incharge will manage the metallurgical testing laboratory for our forging operations, ensuring material quality, process optimization, and compliance with industry standards. This role is critical for maintaining product integrity and supporting production efficiency through accurate testing and analysis.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee metallurgical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished forgingsConduct and supervise mechanical testing (tensile, impact, hardness) and metallographic examinationAnalyze test results to ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standardsPerform failure analysis and provide technical solutions for quality issuesMaintain calibration and functionality of laboratory equipment including spectrometers, hardness testers, and metallographic preparation equipmentDevelop and implement test procedures specific to forging operationsDocument and maintain accurate test records and prepare quality certificationsTrain laboratory technicians on proper testing methods and equipment operationCollaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve technical challengesSupport process improvement initiatives with data-driven insightsQualificationsBachelors degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field; Masters degree preferred3-5 years of experience in metallurgical testing, preferably in forging or metal manufacturing environmentStrong knowledge of metallurgical principles, heat treatment processes, and mechanical properties of metalsExperience with material testing standards (ASTM, ISO, etc.) relevant to forging industryFamiliarity with industry specifications (AMS, ASME, API) and quality systems (ISO 9001)Proficient in metallographic examination techniques and interpretationExperience with spectrographic analysis and mechanical testing equipmentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication abilities to explain technical findings to non-technical personnelLeadership experience managing laboratory staffWorking ConditionsLaboratory environment with exposure to metal specimens, testing chemicals, and heat-treating equipmentProduction floor environment with noise, heat, and heavy machinery when collecting samplesMay require standing for extended periods during testing proceduresOccasional lifting of metal samples and test equipmentMay require shift work to support 24/7 production operationsBenefitsCompetitive salary based on experience and qualifications
