Job Description

:Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities

• Ensure full compliance with safety, health and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility, including laboratory facilities and testing equipment. Promote safety behavior according to the above guidelines.
• Specify and setup experimental laboratory equipment for performing materials prototyping work.
• Design, agree, plan and independently carry out non-routine, innovative experimental programs and specify the timing and resource needs. Independently seek information and find solutions to problems encountered during the execution of the experimental programs. Communicate the outputs, conclusions and recommendations to the project stakeholders in order to provide a technical basis for strategic decisions.
• Write technical reports in line with the report guidelines and secure peer review and line management approval prior to publication.
• Maintain an advanced awareness of state-of-the-art polymer materials science in order to develop the polymer materials prototyping competency further. The job holder is expected to enhance her/his area of research and technical expertise by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of key scientific competitive developments in polymer science.
• Apply advanced polymer science to create ideas and to propose development programs for innovation in the fields of polymer materials science targeted at achieving competitive advantage, thereby contributing to strategic business development opportunities.
• Provide consultancy to the ISC business teams and advise in the resolution of relevant non-routine technical problems.
• Act as the main researcher and project leader in several R&D projects, meeting project milestones and directing and reviewing supporting activities.
• Keep abreast of relevant competitive IP literature in order to direct own research and to develop a strategically aligned intellectual property portfolio in the field of polymer science and write appropriate invention reports.

• Job holder will be responsible for proposing and writing reports, not only for internal use, but for eventual publication and/or presentation at relevant conferences.
• Job holder must be a fluent communicator in English. Other languages are an asset.
• Job holder must be prepared to occasionally travel globally and work across international boundaries.

Education / Experience

• Job holder must have an equivalent of a Doctorate (PhD) in Chemistry. A broad base of experience in Applied Chemistry, polymer chemistry, formulation, prototyping and advanced characterization is necessary.
• Demonstrated expertise in formulation, prototyping and application developments.
• 1-5 years of R&D or Product & Application Development experience in a technology-oriented organization
• Application development experience in polyurethane based - Rigid/Flex/molded foams, Elastomers and coating and adhesive products
• Proven track record of successfully leading R&D projects with geographically distributed teams in multi-cultural environment.
• Strong skills in handling multiple projects.
• Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically when implementing products and solving problems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, with both technical and non-technical individuals.
• Job holder must be a skilled and experienced user of a variety of IT tools and techniques in order to ensure efficient design, analytical and communication processes.
• Optionally, some understanding on top global technology Megatrends and drivers (Green/Clean/Sustainable products, E-Mobility, Autonomous vehicles, Digitalization, Robotics etc.)

• Able to apply good project management principles to own work and the work of global project teams.
