Principal Java Engineer

Job Description

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and engineering software with the primary objective of enhancing customer or user experience. You will actively contribute to the architecture, design, and engineering center of excellence, collaborating to enhance the overall software engineering capability of the bank. This challenging role offers you valuable stakeholder exposure, allowing you to build and leverage relationships while honing your technical talents. This role is offered at the vice president level.**Key Responsibilities:**- Create great customer outcomes through engineering innovative solutions to existing and new challenges- Design technology solutions that are customer-centric, high performance, secure, and robust- Collaborate with software engineers to prototype innovative ideas and engage with architects to validate and leverage them in wider contexts- Design and develop software focusing on automation of build, test, and deployment activities- Develop the discipline of software engineering across the business- Provide oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions with a focus on automation, resilience, security, and scalability- Design and engineer complex software, scripts, and tools to enable the delivery of bank platforms, applications, and services- Define architecture models and roadmaps of application and software components to meet business and technical requirements- Apply Agile methods and DevOps techniques to software development**Qualifications Required:**- Significant experience in software engineering, software or database design, and architecture- Experience in developing software within a DevOps and Agile framework- Expert understanding of market trends, technologies, and tools- Demonstrable experience in implementing programming best practices- Strong background in leading software development teams- At least 12 years of experience in Java, microservices, and AWS- Exposure to React framework, Python, and Apache Camel or Spring integration- Ability to translate product and business requirements into technical solutions effectively- Experience working with code repositories, bug tracking tools, and wikisPlease note the job posting closing date is 17/02/2026, and the experience level required is Senior Level.
