Software Engineering Lead - Python ,Gen AI, Agentic Systems

Job Description

As a Senior AI Engineer at Optum, you will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge GenAI applications using Python, FastAPI, and modern LLM frameworks. Your primary responsibilities will include:- Designing, developing, and optimizing GenAI applications using Python, FastAPI, and modern LLM frameworks- Building agentic workflows using LangGraph, including toolcalling and multi-step reasoning- Implementing and managing vectorstore-based retrieval systems (FAISS / Pinecone / Chroma etc.)- Developing scalable AI services integrated with APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms- Ensuring performance, reliability, and correctness of AI pipelines (latency, evaluation, observability)- Collaborating with crossfunctional teams to deliver high-impact AI capabilities- Writing efficient, clean, and welltested code following engineering best practices- Participating in architecture discussions, code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers- Leveraging AI/ML tools for team productivity and business effectivenessQualifications Required:- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field- 6 years of handson software engineering experience- Practical experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, toolcalling, and LLM frameworks- Handson experience with LangGraph (or similar orchestration frameworks)- Experience with vector databases and semantic search- Experience with cloud services (Azure/AWS/GCP)- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment best practices- Experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies- Good SQL skills; ability to work with relational data and ETL-like flows- Proven solid expertise in Python, including API development (FastAPI preferred)Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with Databricks, Spark, or bigdata systems- Knowledge of RESTful API design and integration patterns- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar DevOps tools- Proven exposure to application development using .NET or ReactJSSoft Skills:- Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities- Solid communication skills for both technical and nontechnical audiences- Selfmotivated, proactive, and able to work independently- Collaborative team player with a continuouslearning mindsetAt Optum, you will have the opportunity to contribute to advancing health optimization on a global scale while working in a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits, and career development opportunities.
