Job Description

As a Mid-level Electrical Engineer at CDM Smith, you will have technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, budgeting, and coordinating complex assignments. You will plan and develop projects related to unique or controversial problems that have a significant impact on major CDM Smith programs. Your role will involve maintaining liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization, acting independently on technical matters in your specialty field. You will represent CDM Smith in conferences to resolve important questions and coordinate work effectively.Key Responsibilities:- Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing a large and important project or multiple small projects with many complex features- Visualizing and assuming responsibility for new business development activities within areas of expertise- Using advanced techniques and expertise to modify and extend theories, precepts, and practices of Electrical design resulting from progressive experience- Supervising and coordinating the work of CADD Operators, technicians, and others assisting in specific assignments- Reviewing shop drawings and assisting with general construction services- Developing the design criteria, specifications, and standards- Conducting short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies using power systems analysis software- Leading medium to large scale electrical design projects involving power distribution, lighting, communications, fire alarm, and security systems design- Planning, investigating, conducting work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques procedures and criteria- Participating in new business development by establishing and monitoring budgets to assess profitability- Staying updated with ongoing changes in the field of Electrical engineering and motivating junior level staff- Performing project management functions for small and moderate-sized projects- Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing several large and important projects or a project of major scope and complexity- Conceiving, planning, and conducting research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexityQualifications Required:- Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical engineering- Minimum 5 years of experience in detailed design for high voltage substation projects through 345kV, including protective relay schemes, relay schematics, grounding and lightning protection design, AC/DC systems, substation outdoor equipment specification, SCADA and other communication systems, etc.- Knowledge of NESC- Experience with leading medium to large scale electrical design projects- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Power Point)Preferred Qualifications:- Masters degree in Electrical Engineering- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)- Experience in designing electrical systems for water/wastewater and other industrial/facilities projects- Professional Engineering certification from accredited agencies- Experience with reviewing drawings/models developed using RevitPlease note that CDM Smith may conduct background checks, including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc., as well as drug testing for designated positions.
