Job Description

Strategize raptor conservation programme for WWF- India along with the Researchers/ Project Officers in the landscapes, other relevant team members and partners. Supervise the Researchers/ Project Officers in the landscapes for implementing the raptor conservation project, with special reference to vultures in the Terai, Central India and Brahmaputra Landscapes including developing protocols for field surveys and monitoring. Coordinate with the Researchers in putting together conservation actions required for ensuring long term survival of vultures and other threatened raptors in select landscapes. Collaborate with the federal and state governments for supporting their policies that might have immediate or long term effects on conservation of vultures and their habitats, especially for those which are within the purview of WWF- India s work. Working with the Fundraising team for raising funds for Raptor research and conservation and bring about innovative ideas for further development of this programme. Assess the project requirements and recruit additional personnel in the field after discussion with relevant teams of WWF- India. Coordinate with the government and civil society partners for Raptor Conservation Programme development and implementation through the landscape teams in the states. Take lead in capacity building of WWF- India field staff and partners on Raptor monitoring, data gathering, data analysis and using the results for targeted Raptor conservation measures. Prepare half- yearly technical & financial reports, scientific publications and other communication material. Coordinating with the landscape and secretariat teams of WWF- India to ensure timely publication of reports, preparation of journal manuscripts, and facts and stories on WWF India website. Prepare communications assets for addressing the conservation requirements of raptors at a country level. Develop protocols for measuring impacts of WWF- India s raptor conservation actions, with special reference to Vultures, as undertaken by the field Researchers and monitor key indicators to keep track of progress of program implementation in select landscapes. Keeping track of the finances of the Raptor Conservation Programme with assistance from the finance managers of the programme/ landscapes. Qualifications and Experience Ph.D. or equivalent in the field of ornithology/ ecology/ wildlife/ environment/ biology At least 7 years experience in the field of raptor or bird research or conservation Experience of working with research and conservation institutions Ability to design and implement research projects independently Current knowledge on the status and issues related to raptor conservation in India DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Demonstrated ability to conduct research using latest tools and techniques Ability for team- work and collaborations with stakeholders Ability and desire to work in tough field conditions as needed, and travel to attend meetings with key stakeholders and partners Strong written and spoken communication skills in English Knowledge of any regional language of India will be an added advantage.
