Job Description

Jobs - 79271- Individual Consultant - Consultant (Chemical Manag Individual Consultant - Consultant (Chemical Management) (For Indian Nationals Only) The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEPs Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific helps to implement all UNEPs programmes and projects in the region by initiating, coordinating and catalyzing regional and sub- regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies. This position is in the UNEP Country Office, India and at the New Delhi duty station. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Support the preparation of detailed implementation plan(s) for approved projects concerning hazardous substances in close coordination with national and local partners ; Support national executing agency(- ies) in developing detailed implementation plan(s) based on the project documents that are approved by the Global Environment Facility and endorsed by the Government of India; Help with the drafting and finalizing legal agreement(s) between national executing agencies and/ or other implementation partners and UN Environment; Work to expedite the signing of the final agreement(s), and Keep UN Environment GEF Chemicals and Waste Team in Nairobi and co- Implementing UN Agencies informed on progress in the implementation planning 2. Assist the designing and execution of project meetings with stakeholders concerning hazardous substances; Organize an inception meeting per approved project in coordination with UN Implementing Agency (- ies) as well as national executing agency(- ies); Organize technical group meetings as agreed in the project documents in close coordination with national executing agency(- ies); Draft meeting reports and press releases; Organize media briefings and launches for projects with help from UN Environment India Communication officer; Coordinate multiplication/ diffusion of training materials and other documents within India, and Backstop the delivery of project outputs as needed assisting technical experts and consultants employed by UN Environment 3. Collect information and evidences to monitor the project implementation progress concerning hazardous substances, and Prepare of information materials that are needed to monitor and report on the project implementation progress; Assist UN Environment GEF Chemicals and Waste Team in carrying out Project Management and Supervisory Tasks; Coordinate translation and interpretation between local languages to/ from English, and Keep updated list(s) of project related contacts. 4. Perform any other task assigned by Supervisors to support UN Environments work in India under Chemicals, Waste and Air quality Subprogramme:Contribute in developing a robust portfolio for India with Un Environment targeting funding sources such as GEF, bilateral donors, as well as private sector contributions, and Support the preparation, organization and reporting of important UN Country Team events including meetings, high profile meetings with government and development partners, external and internal events. Impact of the Result The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the UN Environment, Country Office. Accurate analysis and presentation of information strengthens the capacity of the UN Environment Country Office and promotes the image of UN Environment as an effective contributor to the development of the country. Required Skills and Experience Education: Masters degree in chemicals risk management, chemicals engineering, hazardous substances and/ or waste management or related field. Experience:Minimum of one- year of professional experience afterpost graduation; Familiarity with project management tools and reporting cycles, especially those adopted by Global Environment Facility (GEF); Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory, and Experience in the usage of social media platforms, computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web- based management systems. Assessment Evaluation Method and Criteria: Preliminary shortlisting would be done based on the following criteria:Educational Qualification - 20 Marks Relevant Experience - 50 Marks Payment Criteria All inclusive per day rate of INR 6000 (max 22 days in a month).
