You will also have the chance to influence and optimize efficiency and procedures in line with increasing empowerment of our vessels.Show More Key responsibilitiesThe Second Officer has the following responsibilities:Safe passage planning in accordance with Masters instructions and incompliance with GLSM 07-02 - NauticalSafe navigation when on bridge watch as Officer of Watch (OOW) incompliance with Masters Standing OrdersRegular test and maintain all navigational and GMDSS equipment.Immediately inform the master of any defects or malfunctionAssist maintaining the stability, trim and seaworthiness as directed by theChief Officer and as prescribed by the Company and relevant internationalrules and regulationsMonitor loading and unloading of cargo and its treatment during the voyage,under the direction of Master and Chief OfficerInstruct and supervise all crewmembers in the use of safety, environmentalprotection, firefighting and lifesaving equipmentConduct safety area inspectionsSupervision of personnel in his/her charge which includes:o Orientationo Health and safetyo Environmental protectiono Use of manuals and procedureso Proper use of tools and equipmentStandard maintenance and operating practicesCorrect and update navigation chartsMaintain and manage inventory and ensure latest editions of publications asrequired by GLSM Chart, Publications, Notice to mariners (Doc ID: P059)Be fully conversant with all matters concerning mooring and anchoringoperationsOrdering of charts, publications and storesDay to day maintenance of all lifesaving appliancesEnsure all maintenance and training records relating to lifesaving equipment iskept updatedAssist the Chief Officer in maintaining the medical locker / hospitalEnsure work and rest hour planning is done regularly and requirements arecomplied with.
