Applied Scientist 2

Job Description

As an Applied Scientist 2 at our team, you will have the unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of billions of individuals by working on strategic workloads like M365 Copilot App, Outlook, Teams, and Copilot Extensibility. You will be responsible for models and code running across tens of thousands of machines worldwide, while also focusing on powering workloads with AI and innovating on next-generation engineering infrastructure using AI. Your role will involve collaborating with other teams across Microsoft to build AI platforms, models, and products to enhance productivity scenarios.Key Responsibilities:- Master one or more subareas and gain expertise in a broad area of research, including applicable research techniques.- Review business requirements and incorporate research to meet business goals, providing strategic direction for data usage.- Participate in onboarding junior team members, develop academics, and identify new research talent.- Document work in progress and experimentation results, sharing findings to promote innovation.- Use your deep understanding of fairness and bias to contribute to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and data collection.Qualifications Required:- Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3 years related experience, OR Masters Degree AND 3 years related experience, OR Doctorate AND 1 year(s) related experience, OR equivalent experience.- 2 years of experience in an AI research facility or working with software services/experiences infused with AI.- Solid customer focus, ability to establish trusted relationships, excellent communication skills, and cross-group collaboration.- Ability to keep pace with rapid innovations in the field and creatively solve problems.- Experience in developing/working with highly scalable classifiers, ranking algorithms, SLMs, LLMs, Finetuning with RLHF, etc. will be a plus.Preferred Qualifications:- Masters degree with Computer Science with Data Science focus, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field AND 3 years data-science experience, OR Bachelors degree AND 5 years data-science experience, OR equivalent experience.
