R&D Senior Manager, Budget Management and Execution

Job Description

As the Budget Execution Capability Lead reporting to the Associate Director of R&D Business Operations, you will be responsible for delivering financial forecasts aligned with the organizations strategy. Your key responsibilities will include:- Ensuring on-time and quality delivery of the budget execution process for a key R&D organization, including Annual Budget Planning, Quarterly Forecast Updates, and Leadership Updates- Incorporating the organizations activity prioritization into budget projections for financial forecasts- Supporting Financial Analytics and Business Case Generation within the supported function(s)Your responsibilities will also involve:- Resolving escalated P2P issues- Supporting the generation of data-driven strategy decks for LRS and annual budget submissions- Collaborating closely with R&D Finance planner to explain variances and emerging trends- Partnering with functional leaders to understand changes in baseline spend drivers- Ensuring alignment between financial forecasts and strategic objectives- Managing the team to ensure consistent process delivery within the supported function(s)- Contributing feedback on corporate finance initiatives from a business partner perspective- Developing and maintaining key cross-functional partnerships- Serving as an advanced expert user of financial planning and reporting systems- Supporting Business Case Generation capability for productivity initiatives within the supported function(s)In terms of team leadership, you will be expected to:- Provide continual coaching to direct reports and train new hires- Guide direct reports on talent development expectationsQualifications:To be successful in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:- Doctorate degree & 3 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analyticsOR- Masters degree & 7 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analyticsOR- Bachelors degree & 9 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analyticsAND- 3 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing financial resources- Strong project management experience- Budget management and financial analysis acumen- Fluency in English, both in written and oral communicationPreferred Requirements:- Advanced degree in business, finance, or life sciences- 9 years work experience in life sciences field, including 6 years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience with a strong understanding of the drug development process- Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau) and collaboration tools (Smartsheet, Miro, MS Teams)- Fluent with MS Office suite and advanced capabilities in Excel- Experience with enterprise tools SAP, Ariba, Anaplan- Previous management experience of direct reports- Strong background in change managementIn addition to the qualifications, you should possess the following competencies:- Ability to draw key insights from detailed information- Thrive in a complex and matrixed environment, collaborating with individuals from various backgrounds- Effective influencer handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously- Engage effectively with functional leaders- Develop strategies for leading budget management capability- Excellent communicator facilitating organizational change- Ability to leverage scientific and technical expertise in business and financial analytics- Build relationships with stakeholders, partners, and staff- Role model for Amgen Values- Focus on customer service and solution delivery- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving- Knowledge of R&D through commercialization- Driven for high-quality resultsThis Job Description is tailored for a Budget Execution Capability Lead role in the R&D Business Operations department.
