R&D Sr. Manager, Budget Management and Execution

Job Description

As the Budget Execution Capability Lead reporting to the Associate Director, R&D Business Operations, your role will involve being a trusted partner to functional leads in delivering financial forecasts aligned with the organizations strategy. Your key responsibilities will include:- Ensuring on-time and quality delivery of the budget execution process for a key R&D organization, including Annual Budget Planning, Quarterly Forecast Updates, and Leadership Updates- Incorporating the organizations prioritization of activities into budget projections for financial forecasts- Supporting Financial Analytics and Business Case Generation within the supported function(s)Your responsibilities will also include:- Delivering the end-to-end budget execution process for the R&D organization in a timely and high-quality manner- Addressing escalated Procure-to-Pay (P2P) issues- Assisting in generating data-driven strategy decks for LRS and annual budget submissions- Collaborating with R&D Finance planner to explain variances and emerging trends- Partnering with functional leaders to understand changes in baseline spend- Ensuring alignment between financial forecasts and strategic objectives- Managing the team to maintain consistent process and execution within supported function(s)- Providing feedback on corporate finance initiatives from a business partner perspective- Developing and nurturing key cross-functional partnerships- Acting as an expert user of financial planning and reporting systems- Supporting Business Case Generation for productivity initiatives within supported function(s)In terms of qualifications, you should have:- A Doctorate degree with at least 3 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics, OR- A Masters degree with at least 7 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics, OR- A Bachelors degree with at least 9 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics- 3 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leading teams, projects, programs, or financial resources- Strong project management skills- Budget management and financial analysis expertise- Proficiency in written and oral English communicationPreferred qualifications include:- An advanced degree in business, finance, or life sciences- 9 years of work experience in the life sciences field, including 6 years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience- Proficiency in data visualization tools like Tableau and collaboration tools such as Smartsheet, Miro, and MS Teams- Advanced capabilities in MS Office suite, especially Excel- Experience with enterprise tools like SAP, Ariba, and Anaplan- Previous management experience with direct reportsAdditionally, you should demonstrate competencies such as:- Thriving with detailed information and deriving key insights from trends- Excelling in a complex and matrixed environment, collaborating with individuals at various levels and backgrounds- Effectively influencing others and managing multiple responsibilities- Engaging with functional leaders in R&D, finance, and corporate settings- Developing strategies for leading budget management capability- Communicating effectively to facilitate organizational change- Navigating multiple systems as a technical expert- Leveraging scientific and technical expertise in business and financial analytics- Building relationships with stakeholders, partners, and staff- Serving as a role model in line with Amgen Values- Focusing on customer service and delivering solutions- Applying critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills- Understanding R&D through commercialization- Driving for results and delivering high-quality outcomesIn summary, as the Budget Execution Capability Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial forecasts align with the strategic objectives of the organization, managing the budget execution process effectively, and fostering key partnerships across functions to drive success.
