Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer - Backend at Warner Bros. Discovery, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing major functional changes to existing software systems or creating new ones. Your subject matter expertise and decision-making skills will set standards for your team, driving best practices and proposing new ones proactively. Your responsibilities will include writing high-quality, maintainable, and robust code in multiple languages, understanding software engineering fundamentals to learn new languages and frameworks, and evaluating run-time performance to make informed decisions on algorithm and data structure approaches.Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop major functional changes to existing software systems or new ones- Drive best practices and propose new ones proactively- Write high-quality, maintainable, and robust code- Evaluate run-time performance and make informed decisions on algorithm and data structure approaches- Provide guidance through code reviews, design reviews, and feedback on operational excellence- Collaborate with team members to make key technical decisions and mentor other engineers- Troubleshoot production issues and identify root causes to improve development processes and system design- Hire and mentor engineers to grow the teamQualifications Required:- 9 - 13 years of experience developing solutions proficiently in Java- Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent technical experience- Experience in backend software development, building microservices, and event-driven architectures/solutions- Knowledge and experience of design patterns- Familiarity with a range of database technologies, encompassing both SQL and NoSQL options- Usage and good understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services- Experience with software engineering best practices- Ability to work with minimal instructions on day-to-day work and participate in an inclusive and supportive engineering cultureAt Warner Bros.
