Job Description

As a talented SQL Data Engineer at Morningstar, your role will involve working within the Product teams to deliver data, insights, and models that help solve Customer problems and validate product performance through Customer feedback. You will play a key role in measuring and understanding Customer feedback, product usage, and performance against long-term business objectives. Your strong technical background will be essential in designing and delivering high-quality data solutions, including dashboards, databases, pipelines, and visualizations.Key Responsibilities:- Work in cross-functional teams with engineering, product, and design colleagues to foster a data-informed culture that drives innovation, prioritization, and quality solutions for Customer needs.- Utilize strong SQL skills to extract, manipulate, transform, and analyze large volumes of data accurately.- Identify opportunities to develop self-serve data products and reporting, leveraging tools like Power BI.- Prototype dashboards iteratively to provide insights at scale and address analytical needs throughout the journey.- Take technical ownership and ensure adherence to established guidelines through peer reviews for design and code, unit test results, and deployment processes.- Implement good Agile practices using tools like JIRA, including test-driven development and continuous integration.- Demonstrate a passion for quality, process, programming, and investing, actively seeking opportunities for improvement and sharing findings with others.- Scale web-based software applications and services, understanding how to protect web applications from common security vulnerabilities.- Stay organized and productive when managing multiple deliverables effectively.Qualifications:- Minimum bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent, or evidence of strong self-taught data and analysis skills.- 5 years of experience in Data Engineering using SQL/noSQL and expertise in organizing and maintaining data effectively.- Hands-on experience with relational databases like Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Azure, MongoDB, or AWS DynamoDB.- Ability to write SQL code, including queries and stored procedures, in a dynamic commercial product development environment.- Fast and curious learner with experience defining engineering best practices and providing technical mentorship to team members.Additional Details: Morningstars technology stack primarily includes the Microsoft .Net stack, Angular front end, hosted on Azure, and elements of the Power Platform and BusApps. The company works with a polyglot of Raven Databases, Cosmos, and SQL Server, with teams also leveraging the AWS stack.
